Year 7 Science

Our Earth in Space

Year 7 Science students have been learning about just where it is our Earth fits into the universe. Students have learned about everything in space from comets and asteroids right through to giant gas planets and dwarf ex-planets. They have also found out how we here on Earth are affected by the movement of other celestial bodies. There was a lot of jumping going on when students were learning about the effect of gravity on a person’s ability to leave a planet – even temporarily! Students have also completed a set of mini posters for National Science Week to commemorate the impact of space exploration.

Research Science

Bubbles, Slime and You Tube!

In the lead up to National Science Week, Research science students have been undertaking activities that are part of their negotiated project. Year 8 chose to investigate the Science of Bubbles (everything from foam rubber to Aerobars), Year 7 opted for the Science of Slime (and Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids!), while the Year 9/10 classes opted to investigating just how easy it is to carry out those fun Science Activities on You Tube. The activities: Money to Burn, Flying Tea Bags, the Strength of Newspaper and Egg shells and the Mysteries of Dry Ice had everyone intrigued. At the end of the units, the students completed assessment tasks to show their understanding of the science behind the activities they had conducted and the applications in the wider world.

Arabic

Dear Parents,

What a great start to Term 3! Year 7 & 8 Arabic language students are working hard to absorb all this term’s curriculum and working very hard to deliver their restaurant menu project.

We are currently learning about food and different cultural of cuisines the students enjoyed all the activities specially the hands on activities we had at school.

Both year levels are working very hard with a lot of creativity producing amazing menus.

Please encourage your child to login to Language Perfect online website, I’m monitoring their progress online and always send them work to support their learning.

Overall, well done to all students for a great start to the term! Thank you for your ongoing support. Kind regards,

Mrs Geehan El Desouky
